The stringent code requirements of Florida and other coastal regions require maintaining the building envelope during a hurricane. All elements of the building shell must resist the effects of windborne debris and sustained turbulent winds lasting several hours. Following Hurricane Andrew in 1992, extensive research showed that a breach of the envelope led to internal pressurization of the building. This effectively doubled the forces on major structural elements such as walls and roofs, leading to catastrophic failure. AJJ offers hurricane-resistant glass that answers these problems.
Hurricane-resistant glass is made of two or more pieces of glass permanently bonded together with one or more interlayers. It provides high resistance to hurricanes and other bad weather that may occur in coastal areas. Extreme weather in recent years has led some coastal regions to enforce new standards to increase building resistance to high wind loads and the impacts of wind-borne projectiles.
* Although no product can offer itself a complete protection against hurricanes and other storms, AJJ Hurricane-resistant glass can withstand extreme weather when installed in a system designed for this purpose.

*To meet these standards, the entire window—the glass sealed in its frame—must be tested.
